Jeff Bird is excited about the Kirk and Deb Mace Foundation and the great work it will do to promote causes dear to the hearts of Kirk and Deb. Jeff and his wife Sue met Kirk and Deb in 1981 and quickly became best friends. We were blessed to have them in our lives for nearly 40 years! Our children, Samantha, Katy, Clint and Joey saw Kirk and Deb as surrogate parents. Jeff is a family physician by formal education, and was blessed to care for the extended Mace and Elwood families during his time as a practicing physician. He moved into healthcare administration 15 years ago and now serves as the IU Health President of Ball Hospital and the IU Health East Central region. Jeff and Sue’s love of the Mace and Elwood families, and in light of the indescribable impact Kirk and Deb had on their lives, hope to recognize, remember and honor them through the work of the Mace Foundation.

Together, they are the parents of Taylor, Kellsie, Jack and Rylee. While his kids were in school, Kris spent many years coaching and running the Cowan Little League. Kris began working at Indiana Michigan soon after graduating from high school and is looking forward to retiring in the summer of 2024. After retirement, Kris plans to spend more time with family, fishing, and working on the board to continue Kirk and Deb's passion for the community. Kris misses Kirk’s jokes (that he usually stole from somebody) and the stories he would tell (that may or may not have been true) but always ended in laughter. And Deb, the bonus sister, was always there for him.

Seth Stanley is a Lieutenant with the Muncie Police Department and a Real Estate Agent. Seth worked for Kirk early in his police career and Kirk quickly became a Mentor and close friend. Seth and Kirk were both motorcycle enthusiasts, riding together locally and several times across the United States. Seth is married to his wife Nikki and they have two daughters, Emah and Avery. A close friendship ensued with Kirk and Deb and they accompanied Seth and Nikki to Jamaica for their wedding where Deb was one of Nikki’s Bridesmaids. Seth, Nikki, and their girls enjoy camping, boating, and traveling. Seth and Nikki would meet with Kirk and Deb often for dinners together. We will forever miss their friendship, huge hugs, and kisses every time we saw each other. Kirk and Deb were definitely two of our most favorite people in this world and they could never be replaced. Seth has a deep love for both the Mace and Elwood families and is truly honored to sit on the Mace Foundation Board. Seth hopes that the Mace Foundation can forever honor Kirk and Deb’s lives by giving back to the community they both loved and served.

Jason Elwood is one of Deb’s two sons. He lives in Cincinnati, OH with his wife (Joy), two daughters (Jacey and Jalen), and two grandsons (Mace and Jason). Jason and Joy have spent their careers in Education Technology and Nursing respectively. Both work as consultants in their fields and are looking forward to retirement. Beyond spending time with family, Jason enjoys hiking with his two Rhodesian Ridgebacks, listening to live music (never ever ever any form of country music though), and smoking barbeque. He shared a passion for Indiana Hoosiers basketball with his mother and deeply misses attending games, talking about players, and armchair coaching games with her. Serving on the board to continue Kirk and Deb’s commitment to the community is an honor he hopes to pass to his children.

One of Kelly’s greatest joys in life is being with her grandkids, Kenley & Keaton. Kelly worked many years in childcare and elementary education at Cowan Schools but now enjoys being retired. Kelly and Ken miss all the “rides” with Kirk & Deb but mostly, Kirk’s smart-ass remarks (that were made with love) & Deb’s , “Shut up Kirk! Be nice to your sister!” (With that awesome laugh). Being on the board, Kelly wants to honor Kirk and Deb by continuing to help and love the community in their names.

Matt Elwood is the 2nd of Deb’s two sons. Originally from Muncie, he lives in Monroe, OH with his wife Heather and three children, Will, Olivia and Henry (Kirk and Deb loved being “Pawpaw and Mena”). Matt has worked as a buyer at AmerisourceBergen for 16 years. He enjoys assistant coaching Will and Henry’s baseball and football teams, and being a cheer Dad watching Oliva cheering on the sidelines or at a competition. Matt shared in Kirk and Deb's enjoyment of home renovation and was involved in many of the never-ending renovations they made to the house they called home for 34 years. With the support of his family, Matt wants to grow the foundation, share their memory, and support the charities Kirk and Deb cared about.
